UK Travel Bucket List for Next Year

It’s been a long while since we’ve been able to travel freely, or even get excited about the prospect of a new adventure. Now that borders are slowly reopening and the world is available to explore again, it’s time to plan your travel bucket list for next year.

For starters, we’ve listed a few of our top places to visit in the UK… from idyllic coastlines to bright city lights and dramatic countryside, there are destinations across England, Scotland, and Wales to suit all.

Kent

Kent’s Heritage Coast is home to some of the county’s most impressive scenery, all the way from North Dover’s picture-perfect beaches to the south of Folkestone.

From discovering the history behind Dover Castle to exploring the Kent Downs – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – there’s plenty to see and do.

North Wales

An amalgamation of rich culture and history, North Wales is most certainly a great family destination and one that plays privy to some of the most notable castles in existence, including the Wrexham gem of Gwrych Castle, renowned for being the backdrop to the 2020 and 2021 series of “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here”.

Another must-visit spot is Wales’ adventure capital, also known as the Snowdonia National Park. It is here you can climb Wales’ tallest mountain, experience Bounce Below, or try out the fastest zip line in the world. Looking for something more peaceful?

Visit the region’s picture-perfect coastline and enjoy an array of beautiful coastal walks, comprising a variety of idyllic seaside towns and cutesy lighthouses. Take in the Victorian sights of Llandudno or venture across to Anglesey to spy an array of wildlife in stunning surroundings.

North York Moors and Heritage Coastline

York has something for all, including those who are a fan of the city, those who enjoy the countryside, and those partial to the coast. This is one of the reasons why the North York Moors National Park has made it onto our list of must-visit places in 2022, especially for families.

It is here you will discover a bold landscape, picturesque wooded valleys, endless moorland, and quaint coastal villages. Head to Whitby, a renowned, buzzing seaside town famed for numerous tourist hotspots, including the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, the 99 steps that lead to the ruins of the Abbey, the Dracula Experience, and the local sandy beach, which boasts a variety of water sport activities.

Don’t miss the chance to sample the region’s award-winning fish and chips too. Other must-see areas in the vicinity include Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay, Leeds City Centre, and the seaside resort of Scarborough.

Cornwall

For a long time now, Cornwall has been one of the UK’s most popular tourist destinations, home picturesque harbors, dramatic coastlines, a sub-tropical climate, and numerous pretty sandy beaches. This makes it a popular choice for families.

Newquay, an area that sits on the Atlantic coast is home to an impressive five sandy beaches, including Lusty Gaze, Towan, Great Western, and Tulane – all of which are perfectly suited to swimmers. If surfing more your thing, head to Fistral Beach, an area famed for Boardmasters surfing championships.

Other must-visit attractions include the Lappa Valley Steam Railway, Newquay Zoo, and the Blue Reef Aquarium. Alternatively, take a drive further along the coastline and embrace a series of renowned and enchanting harbors and fishing villages, including St Ives, Portreath, Perranporth, and Penzance.

All promise a memorable vacation by the seaside. Then there’s The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Bodmin Moor, and the Eden Project if you want to be at one with nature.

The Peak District

With waterfall walks and ample wild swimming opportunities, the Peak District National Park is an ideal UK destination to visit in 2022, especially for those who are looking to escape the city.

This area is home to a picturesque, varied landscape, which spans an impressive 555 square miles, boasting numerous tranquil, dog-friendly walks – a great option for those who wish to bring their furry friends along.

Other must-visit landmarks include Haddon Hall, Chatsworth house, and Poole’s Cavern, while there is an assortment of cutesy villages and towns to visit, including the celebrated market town of Bakewell, famed for its taste-tantalizing Bakewell Tart.

From exploring specialist shops to strolling alongside the River Wye or trekking to the striking medieval five-arched stone bridge, there is plenty to discover in the Peak District.

Caithness

Situated on Scotland’s northeast coast, and part of the renowned North Coast 500 driving route, Caithness offers spectacular landscapes and an abundance of history to get stuck into.

It is home to numerous ancient monuments and the Whaligoe Steps, an 18th-century feat of engineering which provides an impressive route down a near-vertical cliff. Depending on when you visit, you may even be able to get a glimpse of the Northern Lights!
