Want to welcome in the New Year with flair, but without breaking the bank? Here we have our top seven tips for how to celebrate starting 2022 on a budget. After all, an epic New Year party doesn’t have to cost the earth.
With a little creativity and clever planning, you can throw a pocket-friendly, yet incredible end-of-the-year bash that your family and friends will remember for months to come. Here’s how…
Tip 1: Host it at home
Instead of paying for taxis that cost considerably more than they usually do, extortionate entrance fees or over-priced venue hire, host a NY party in your own living room. This is a great way to tailor the soirée to your exact tastes and all without venturing out into the cold.
From creating a theme to adding a touch of festive decor to your home, there are plenty of ways you can turn your abode into a picture-perfect party venue. Ask everyone to bring a bottle, put on a spread and bring in 2022 in both comfort and style.
Tip 2: Book in advance
If you are planning on going out, or better still, to another destination, make sure you book in advance! Doing so should save you plenty on travel and hotel costs, and it will also ensure you have something in the diary to look forward to.
Try to book when you know your favourite airline is having a sale, or alternatively, use a companion voucher. Another great way to get a good deal is to travel out slightly earlier and home slightly later, rather than on the days everyone is trying to make their way back.
Tip 3: Accept help
If you’ve decided to host a party, be this at home or in a venue, accept help when friends and family offer it. If everyone brings a little to the party, you’ll have fewer costs to front.
From a dish of nibbles to a bottle of bubbly to decorations, party poppers and more, many hands make light work (and a lighter bank balance).
Tip 4: Have a cosy night in
Over-the-top New Year’s Eve celebrations aren’t for everyone. If you’re someone who prefers to cosy up with a partner or a few friends, organise a cute dinner and watch the countdown on the big screen cosied up in your pyjamas.
Just be sure to have the highlight of the night planned in advance – stick a bottle of bubbles chilling in the fridge, have the TV set to the right channel, and have a pre-planned personal countdown or ‘Auld Lang Syne’ ready to blare on the CD player.
All are great options, and all will help you to bring in the New Year!
Tip 5: Give your Christmas decorations a new lease of life
It is likely your home is already decorated for the Christmas celebrations. Instead of clearing away festive lights and decor, re-use it as a backdrop for a New Year’s Eve party.
Even if you decide to take the tree down, you can still leave the fairy lights and a handful of other decorations up. Alternatively, make your own New Year’s Eve decorations, as it’s a great project to involve both friends and family in and is definitely one way to make your home look distinctive.
There are numerous online decoration tutorials, inspiration boards and blogs that can guide you. You can even have a go at making the likes of edible decorations – a great way to avoid any waste!
Tip 6: Order in bulk
If you’ve decided to throw a big party, order food and drink in bulk. This is often a great way to get items at cost and what you don’t use on the evening itself, can always be used at a later date.
You can either visit a store or order online. Another way to get items for less is to pick them up whenever you see them on offer.
Tip 7: Don’t forget the Pound shop!
If you’re looking to invest in a series of paper plates and cups, don’t forget about the Pound store! They sell a variety of party items and New Year’s Eve-themed decor – all for a very small price.
Of course, if you can, use your own plates and cutlery or ask friends to borrow a selection of serving bowls and glasses. Asides from doing your bit for the planet, real plates often look a lot better than paper and plastic varieties.
By following just a handful of the tips above, you should be able to bring in 2022 in style, and on a budget. As long as you are surrounded by family, friends and lots of delectable food and drink, you’ll be certain to have a great time, regardless of location or event type!
