Table Halloween Plants

Halloween is no longer just for kids! Today, both adults and youngsters appreciate this weird and wonderful period, particularly the spooky nature of it all. It’s a great excuse to organize get-togethers, throw costumed parties, and decorate the home and garden.

If you have decided to have a Halloween party this year, be it a bigger bash or a smaller, sit-down soirée, you’ll likely want to add a little spookiness to the home. One great way to do this is to use Halloween flowers and plants in orange shades to do so.

You can even use pumpkins as plant pots! Read on to discover our top tips when it’s comes to adding a punch to your Halloween centerpieces and table displays this October…

Colour is key

Everybody knows that Halloween hues are either shades of pumpkin orange or as black as the night. You can also throw a few deep red blooms and purple plants into the mix. However, if you’re planning on using a pumpkin as a plant pot, you can add any flowers or plants you desire to the spooky vessel.

This will make a great centerpiece and one that is guaranteed to turn a few heads when guests arrive at your home. It’s also a unique way to add a little Halloween decor to an array of rooms in your household, as well as the exterior areas.

How to make a Halloween centerpiece

There is a definite trick to creating Halloween centerpieces for tables, shelves, sideboards, and more. First things first, you will need to hollow out a pumpkin (or pumpkins should you be making a few), then place plastic bags or containers inside the hollowed-out pumpkins.

This will ensure you can add water to the makeshift vase for the flowers and plants, helping them to thrive for longer. Another option is to use plastic pumpkins purchased from your local supermarket or fancy dress shop, as these won’t require any plastic lining.

Which plants to use?

When it comes to picking Halloween plants, there are lots of great options to choose from, all of which are perfectly suited to being Halloween centerpieces. The appropriate variants include succulents, as these work extremely well as Halloween plants and many of them naturally grow in odd shapes and short, stubby sizes. This makes them perfect for placement in hollowed-out pumpkins and the green colours are a great complement to the orange hue.

Orange flowers are another good option and a natural choice for Halloween plants. The likes of orange Asiatic lilies, tulips, or pansies all work really well and will add an instant injection of Halloween hue to your home. Looking for something fun?

Grow your own Halloween centerpiece by planting a few potted pocketbook plants, such as the Chilean species Calceolaria crenatiflora, in your garden, and make sure they’re ready in time for October. These annuals make great Halloween plants, as they boast pouch-shaped blooms in Halloween shades of rich blood red, yellow, and orange. Some variants are also speckled with dots.

If these types of plants are not to your liking, you may like to pick a few autumnal alternatives, including the likes of asters, sneezeweed, and chrysanthemums. When coupled with some themed vases, these blooms can add some rich colours to your Halloween setup.

Other Halloween centerpieces for tables

You can create a Halloween centerpiece using just about any blooms. These could be plants and flowers already growing in your garden or alternatively, blooms, and plants from an online florist such as Serenata Flowers. This particular florist offers many items for same and next-day delivery, an asset if you need to order plants late on for a last-minute party.

Halloween themed containers

Choosing Halloween-themed vases and vessels such as pumpkins, skulls, witches’ hats, and cat-shaped plant pots is a fun and easy way to inject a little spook into your home this Halloween. Hollowed-out pumpkins are a great idea, but there are so many more options to choose from.

As well as the table plants, you can also add an array of other spooky accessories to the table, such as skull candles, skeletons, spider webs, and Halloween-themed sweets. Or perhaps creating a papier-mâché pot could be an alternative if you’d like to try making something yourself?

Lighting

Lighting is also extremely important when it comes to decorating your home this Halloween, particularly using the likes of uplighting and candles, as this will help to add drama to your Halloween plant displays. Not only will it help to make them look that little bit eerier, but if you choose orange lights you’ll be able to stick to a color theme too.

You can also invest in lanterns and pumpkin or skull-shaped lights, draping them from mantelpieces and windowsills to bring the entire look together. This is a great project for the entire family to work on, and one that can become an annual date in the diary. If you throw a great party, it’s likely your friends and family will be keen for you to continue this tradition year after year!

Bouquets

As well as plants, opt to place orange, deep red, and purple bouquets strategically around the home to add further drama to your house this Halloween.

You can leave them out longer than usual, as whenever when they start to fade, they’ll help to dramatize your spooky Halloween decor creating the feeling of a haunted home. Again, find fitting vases and unusual vessels for your blooms to add that extra Halloween feel.

Inspiration

When it comes to inspiration, look to online florists, as they often feature a bouquet of the month which might have the perfect colours for Halloween. Alternatively look to sites such as Pinterest for decor ideas and style tutorials, as Halloween is the perfect excuse to get creative and try out new things.

After all, it is likely you’re not the only one trying to create a show-stopping and awe-inspiring Halloween display!
