How to Throw a Great Baby Shower

When it comes to life’s biggest events, you can’t get much bigger than the birth of a baby. And that means the baby shower you’re planning should be just as meaningful.

Luckily for you, throwing a great baby shower doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune – all you need is a little creativity and a few personal touches.

With 2014 being the year of celebrity baby showers, it’s time for us to up the ante in 2015! Kim Kardashian celebrated her pregnancy with baby North with a breakfast at Tiffany’s theme and Gwen Stefani complemented her dazzling blue gown on the red carpet with an all blue party – from the cakes to the doughnuts!

It means it’s time for us mere mortals to become baby shower pros and show those celebrities how it’s done.

Before going any further with your planning, you should decide where your baby shower of the century is going to take place. Bear in mind that the location you choose will account for 5%of the overall cost so with this in mind it may pay to keep things simple.

You could even host it in your own home if you wanted to save a little more …

Choose your theme: top three

Once the venue is sorted, it’s time to get down to business with the theme! Here are some quirky themes for your baby shower, set to put the likes of Blake Lively and Danielle Jonas to shame.

  1. Pastel circus

If you thought circus themes were only good for baby boys, think again! Whether you aim for poppy pastel pink or a white and mint green, you’re sure to have the perfect theme. Simply put up a few canopies complete with some simple white pom-pom flowers for good measure.

  1. Camper chic

If it’s a nice day, why not set up a picnic garden lunch? Take plenty of sandwiches and cakes piled high and add a few pinecones and lanterns for that extra camper touch. Set up a few small tables and relax in camp-inspired style for that ultimate baby shower.

  1. Wild card

To create an imaginative and fun-filled baby shower, give your day a safari theme. Add your favourite safari animals to the invite cards and copy the motifs onto small cupcakes. Remember though, keep it plain and simple and stay well away from animal print baby outfits as gifts!

Choose your flowers: the top three

No matter what theme you opt for, flowers will always be a necessity and we have some of the best options for you to try.

  1. Violets

Violets are one of the very few flowers that have been known to symbolize the renewal of spring and the triumphs of love, making them absolutely perfect for a baby shower.

  1. Roses

Who doesn’t just love a rose? And with each colour having a different meaning you’re sure to find the perfect one for a baby shower. Pink is the classic choice for a little girl while white works well for boys and yellow has all bases covered and actually symbolizes friendship and warmth – perfect.

  1. Chrysanthemums

This stunning flower is used to symbolize optimism and joy and is often given to expectant mothers as a sign of good luck and best wishes. With the Chrysanthemum also meaning a long and healthy life in Japanese, this is definitely among the best baby shower flowers around.

Choosing a baby shower gift: top three

As well as flowers, mums-to-be also deserve a treat or gift at their baby shower. The whole point of the occasion is to stock up on outfits, gifts and key accessories but what should you actually buy?

  1. Booties

Apart from the fact, little booties are the cutest thing ever, they’re also really handy and perfect for when the baby has just been born and needs its toes kept toastily. They’re likely to get easily lost too so you can never buy an expectant mum too many.

  1. Baby seat

Every new parent needs a baby seat that’s the right size for a newborn, so why not get everyone to club together and get your beloved friend the don of all baby car seats? For something a little smaller (and cheaper) but equally as practical go for an on-the-go changing mat. You’ll never believe how much of a lifesaver they can be!

  1. Baby travel bag

Your friend is soon to find out that she won’t be able to go anywhere without a suitcase full of 100 nappies and 50 changes of baby clothes! With this in mind, why not get her a fancy baby travel bag – one that she will absolutely love showing off but which is still big enough to fit the kitchen sink in!
