How to Celebrate and Appreciate Your Friendship

World Friendship Day (also referred to as International Friendship Day) takes place on 30th July. The concept of a day to honor friendship has been adopted by a number of countries, with many using this date as an excuse to exchange gifts between loved ones. From sending flowers to visiting your best friend unannounced, there are a number of ways you can celebrate and appreciate your friends, even if they live further afield.

Why we should celebrate our friends

Friends bring out the best in us; they are there for us in our times of need, they act as our reflecting mirrors, offer advice when required and help us celebrate the good times. Surrounding yourself with people you trust and admire is something we should all do, and every now and again, it’s nice to show them a little appreciation.

What to do if you’re unable to visit your friend on International Friendship Day?

It’s not uncommon to live further afield from our friends and family. You may be studying or working in another city. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t still celebrate your friendship! Sending flowers to friends in other parts of the country or even overseas is a great way to show them you’re thinking of them. Opening the door to a bouquet of beautiful blooms is a welcome surprise and one that will be adored by all. Serenata Flowers have a range of bouquets and letterbox flowers that you can send, all of which make perfect gifts for friends.

Arrange regular meet-ups

We can all become extremely busy, either due to work deadlines or family commitments, but regardless of this, it’s still important to make time for our friends. One way to do this is to ensure you arrange to meet-up at least once a month. Simply pick a date and stick to it! This doesn’t need to be anything too expansive either – it could merely be a stop off for coffee or enjoying a pint together one evening.

Visit your friends who live in other cities

Book a weekend away to visit a friend who lives in another city. Being together, even if just for a few days, will allow you to spend some quality time together. Take it in turns to visit each other or alternatively, pick a different city and meet there. Not only do you get to see each other but you can explore the country too!

Be there for your friends at all times

Even if you can’t physically be there for a friend in need, you can still show them you care. Sending the likes of a planted gift basket will be sure to brighten up their day and can show them that you are thinking of them. Bursting with glorious flowers and enchanting foliage, such a floral arrangement makes a wonderful present for a friend who is a floral admirer.

Phone a friend

We don’t have to be in the same room as a friend to have a good catch-up. A phone call is just as good. Whether it’s on a Sunday night after the kids have gone to bed, or on your lunch break, always make time to phone a friend. Whether you’re putting the world to rights or having a general natter, catching up with your nearest and dearest over the phone or over video call is always a great idea.

Write a letter

Asides from phone calls, writing letters is a great way to catch up with your best friends, especially those who live overseas and who are in different time zones. Write as much or as little as you like! There is something special about receiving a handwritten letter and it’s a good way to celebrate friendship.

Get together for dinner

Whether you make dinner together or order a hamper and share a friendly picnic, chatting over great food and wine is the perfect way to celebrate international friendship day! It’s also a fantastic excuse to indulge in all of your favorite foods with loved ones.
