Seven Ways to Appreciate Your Friends

Friends, new and old, are important to us all in different ways. They act as our confidants, people to pass the time with, individuals to embark on adventures with, and those you go to for advice and understanding. They may have recently helped you move house, been there for you through thick and thin, passed an exam they’ve been studying for months for, or just announced their engagement – regardless of whether the occasion is big or small – there are many reasons to celebrate our friends. Here, we’ve listed seven ways to show appreciation and love to your nearest and dearest below…

Throw a party

It could be a special birthday, an engagement, an exam or job success or their return home – irrespective of what the celebration is, a party is a great way to rejoice the occasion and show your friend or friends just how much you appreciate them. You can host the party in your own home or alternatively hire a venue. You may wish to let them in on the event so that they can help plan it (especially if adding their personal touch is something you know they’ll enjoy doing) or alternatively, organize a surprise party. Either way, an occasion held in their honour is a great way to let them know just how much they mean to you.

Send a bouquet of beautiful blooms

Choose their birth flower, their favourite bloom, or ones in their favourite hue. Gifting your nearest and dearest a bouquet of beautiful blooms is another great way to show your appreciation and one that is guaranteed to brighten up their day. This is also a great idea for those who live in a different town or country to their friends as the advent of online florists now allows us to send bouquets and floral arrangements to friends and family around the world at the click of a button!  Many florists offer same and next day flower delivery provided that you place your order before a certain cut off time.

Take your friend out for lunch

If you haven’t seen your friend for a little while and you’re long overdue a catch-up, take them out for lunch! Even an hour spent together chatting over good food and a glass of wine is a great way to show a special friend you appreciate and enjoy spending time with them. This could be on their lunch break from work or otherwise at the weekend if you wish to enjoy a leisurely lunch together.

Arrange a video call

If you can’t be with your friend or live in a different continent to them, a video call is a great plan and one that will allow you to catch up face to face. You may even wish to dress up for the occasion, share a meal online together, or play games, such as karaoke or an online quiz. There is an abundance of great video calling apps available, some of which boast a huge game selection, face filters, and backgrounds that make you look like you’re calling from outer space, the Caribbean, or Vegas.

Plan a surprise trip

If you’re missing a friend dearly and wish to see them in person, plan a surprise trip! Try to talk to their husband or parents prior to organizing this trip as you’ll need to make sure they’re available first, especially if you plan to turn up on their doorstep unannounced. Pack your glad rags or your comfy clothes, you can either choose to hit the town together or simply stay in and cook your favourite meal and watch films until the early hours of the morning!

Make them something

From a sweet message or a painting to a handmade card or piece of jewelry, making a gift for a friend is a sweet and thoughtful way to show them that you’re thinking of them. It doesn’t have to be fancy or overly expensive, as it’s the thought that counts!

Make them a photo album

If you and the friend in question have been besties for many, many years, it’s likely you have some golden pictures together. Why not make your friend an album, complete with quirky messages and comedy pictures. From your first school dance to your last vacation, you can add as many or as few pictures as desired. You can choose to create the album by hand or alternatively, design it online and get a company to print it for you. When they open this gift they’ll be instantly be taken back to the many memories you’ve shared together and whenever they’re missing you or home, they can look over the photos and be reminded of all the fun times you’ve shared together.
