As well as celebrating Easter’s religious roots, it’s also the perfect time to enjoy everything spring has to offer. After months of drab weather, Easter flowers can add instant cheer and colour to the home, especially when fashioned into table decorations, creative centrepieces or a wreath, or when presented as a brightly-hued vase brimming with blooms.
There’s plenty of ways that you can get creative and craft some fashionable displays to mark this Easter, all with flowers at their heart…
1. A creative centrepiece
Get creative with lilies, sunflowers and tulips to fashion a glorious centrepiece that smells as sweet as it looks. This bold and bright display is guaranteed to catch the attention of your dinner guests, whether they be family or friends! But what about if you’re looking for something more sophisticated in style?
Simply switch the blooms for delicate hues and opt for flowers in the shape of white hydrangeas and blush peonies. Add an extra wow-factor with a handmade vase created out of recycled milk bottles or jam jars, fastened together with ribbon or garden string.
2. Woven vases
Instead of opting for a traditional vase or vessel when displaying Easter blooms, create a vase that takes inspiration from boho vibes. Choose wildflowers that look a little like they could have been plucked straight from the garden to add to the effect. To create your DIY vessel, you’ll need some cane webbing, yarn, a glue gun and an old vase.
Cut a piece of the webbing, thread a needle with colour-contrasting yarn (you can substitute this with embroidery thread) and stitch a line along the edge of the vase using a criss-cross weave. Once complete, simply envelope the webbing around the vessel and secure it with glue.
3. Herb garden centrepiece
If you have an old tiered cake stand hanging around the house, you can fashion it into an unconventional herb stand. Pick a selection of your favourite herbs, all of the varying heights and place them on any tier you desire. You can fill any empty spaces with colourful spring blooms or painted Easter eggs.
4. An Easter table wreath
Your front door is the first thing your family, friends and even the postman will see when visiting your home, so why not add a little cheer to it with a homemade wreath? One way of doing this does this involves old egg cartons a new lease of life by painting them a pastel shade, cutting them into groups of four and styling them into a circle. Fill the egg cups with beautiful blooms in varying hues, painted eggs and sweets, and secure them with a glue gun, to create a chic centrepiece.
Alternatively, opt for a funnel wreath using an old galvanised funnel from your garden, a little floral foam, a drill, some wire and a handful of your favourite Easter blooms. Begin by inserting the floral foam into the funnel, before drilling a hole into the back of the vessel, and looping the wire through the hole so that you can hang it from any wall or door. Add flowers to the mix and swap them whenever they require a refresh.
5. Easter egg bouquet
Buy some ombré eggs from your local supermarket or online and a bouquet of blooms in complementary hues to create a picture-perfect table centrepiece. What will you need? Two vases, one smaller filled with water, flowers, scissors and enough painted eggs to fill the larger vessel. Place the smaller vase into the bigger vessel and position the coloured eggs around this.
Clean and trim the stems of your blooms and position them in the smaller vase. You should be left with a floral display that looks like it has been plucked from the pages of an interiors magazine!
6. Berry baskets bursting with blooms
If you wish to spread the joy instead of creating one focal point, split your bouquet into several bunches, add your blooms to various vessels and place them haphazardly around the home. If you have a few old berry baskets to hand, you can use them as makeshift vases.
Scattered floral arrangements create just as much impact as centrepieces, while leftover berry baskets are perfectly suited to holding a medley of peonies, hydrangeas and ranunculuses.
7. Floral chandelier
Looking to boost your bloom game? A floral chandelier could be the answer! It’s also a great option for those who have less table space to work with. You’ll need a selection of hot-hued Easter blooms in shades that match your table or room decor, floral tape, a wire floral frame and ribbon or string of your choice.
Fasten the blooms to the frame using the floral tape, thread the string through all four corners and position your chandelier above the main table to add an instant pop of colour!
