With the International Day of Friendship on July 30th, it’s time to think up some cool ways of celebrating the day with your friends.
With the tradition of the International Day of Friendship dating all the way back to 1935 when the US Congress decided to dedicate a day to honor its friends, it’s time we also got into the spirit of things.
Our friends are the family we get to choose and so it’s important to show them just how much we care and respect them. And with a whole day dedicated to it, there’s no time like the present!
1. Have a memory day
We all have weird and wonderful memories of our friends and what we’ve done together, so why not relive them? Whether it’s a day at Thorpe Park, playing X-BOX or simply reminiscing with one another, July 30th is the perfect time to have a memory day.
2. Watch Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh was named Friendship Ambassador for the world in 1997 so let loose your inner child and enjoy the fabulous cartoon, books or films as an adult. And if Winnie the Pooh isn’t your favourite, there’s always Tigger to make you laugh!
3. Express your gratitude
If you’ve had a pretty bad year, one where you’ve needed a great deal of support from your friends, then it’s time to express your gratitude and tell them how thankful you are. You could do this by cooking them dinner or simply buying them a card and a bunch of flowers.
4. Get in touch
We all have that friend who has moved away to get married and now has kids running around and no time to spare for themselves, let alone you. Well, why not pick up the phone and have a catch up with them? Have a good gossip about what’s going on and ensure they knows you’re there for them.
5. Give your friend a gift
If you have a really special friend, then why not buy them a gift to show them just how much you love and care for them? Whether it’s something extravagant and expensive or a small trinket, make sure they can keep it for years to come and watch their eyes light up as they open it.
6. Friendship bracelets
Come on, who doesn’t just love a friendship bracelet? And with the kits available in many kids’ stores, there’s no reason you can’t pick one up and get creative with your friends. Alternatively, if you’re not the creative type you could both head out to the shopping centre and pick one up.
7. Thoughtful notes and messages
If your friend lives on the other side of the world then why not send them a letter? Alternatively, you could create a video message. This is personalized and the perfect opportunity for you to voice just how great they are and how much you miss them.
8. Photographs
There’s nothing better than sitting down with your friend and a cup of tea and going through old photographs of you both together. From those god-awful green shoes you wore when you were both 10 to the Goth-style ensemble you carried off when you were 15; you’re sure to have an afternoon full of belly laughs.
9. Make time for your friend
If you’re both working or are too busy during the day then there’s no reason you can’t organize an evening meal together. This will give you the opportunity to catch up and put the world to rights! What more could you want on July 30th?
10. Keep the spirit throughout the year
This July 30th is the perfect time for you to ensure you and your friends meet up regularly and not once in a blue moon. We’re all human and have hectic lives but that’s no reason not to make time for your beloved friends so take this day to put your calendars together and compare dates when you’re free.
With these 10 great ideas for celebrating the International Day of Friendship you’re sure to have a whale of a time and you can even show your friends how much they mean to you by sending them some gorgeous flowers as well!
