Serenata Flowers offers a 'great retail customer experience'

Self-confessed flower-choosing dunces they may be, but they're no fools when it comes to usability and customer experience. Together, these things make the chaps at Experience Solutions our toughest type of customer... so we're thrilled to have been given 'full marks' in their recent review of Serenata Flowers.

As regular visitors to our website know, we work hard to respond to feedback and implement changes in our bid to make sending flowers as fun and hassle-free as receiving them. And it looks like we're on the right track, given these usability gurus' good words about our nifty navigation, 'help me choose' feature and suite of chirpy transactional emails.

But never ones to rest on our laurels, we'll be sure to stop by at the Experience Solutions blog for some extra ideas on how to keep our customers smiling.

A year of flowers: Pollen Nation is 1 today

Can you remember your first blog post? We can - but we can't believe that feeling of trepidation, cursor poised over the 'save' button with 'publish now' tentatively checked, happened one year ago today.

There's been a lot of floral happenings since then, and, much to our delight, a lot more visitors. Thank you all for stopping by and letting us spread the love of flowers.

All words and no cliché make Jack a winner

Congratulations to Jack Burdis, whose eloquent and emotive Valentine's tale captured the hearts of the masses who voted him the winner of the Serenata Flowers Kiss and Tell competition.

Whichever bouquet Jack chooses as his prize, we hope that no perfidious paramours steal the glory this time…

Vote for the winner of our Kiss and Tell Competition

Wanted: your views on our site updates

Should we chuck our new checkout or give it three cheers? Does the new product page make you feel all warm and rosy inside, or is it a thorn in your side?

Our thick-skinned but open-minded webologists are keen to hear what you reckon about the changes we've made to the Serenata Flowers shopping experience.

Is it more efficient, more elegant or just plain evil? How could we make it better for you? Big it up or bring it down, just tell it like it is...

Our new 3-step checkout makes it even easier to order flowers online

Buying things online used to seem like such a speedy luxury. Ah, yes, the good old days, when we were still comparing e-commerce experiences to supermarket queues and tailbacks on the M25.

While anyone who's heard of the Watford gap knows that the latter is something they'll probably have to live with for the rest of their lives, there are plenty of things that are moving a lot faster in the real world now (thank you, inventors of self-service kiosks). Relatively speaking, some online shopping experiences are now downright tardy. Well, we sure as eggs didn't want our basket to be lumped into that category.

SerenataFlowers.com checkout
It's never been easier to order flowers online at SerenataFlowers.com

Hence our super-improved product pages, where you can instantly check if your delivery date is available, and a swanky new checkout that lets you order your flowers in three very easy steps. Oh yes, and the fact that you can now make a purchase directly from our Quick View and category pages – a feature added especially for the decisive types among you.

And just in case three steps sound like one too many, we've added a few tools to reduce the effort. By logging in to your Serenata Flowers account, during checkout you can access saved recipient and billing profiles from a dropdown menu, saving you from filling in the address details of any flower-loving friends you spoil a second time.

Just don't tell your sweetheart… it's one less excuse for not sending flowers more often.

Do believe the hype...

Serenata Flowers gets personal... yep, we sure do. You can send someone flowers and see for yourself, or read all about it at www.1to1media.com.

Serenata Flowers featured in the UIE Designer's Guide

We always thought our website was pretty nifty... turns out the gurus at User Interface Engineering think so too. They've featured Serenata Flowers in 'The Designer's Guide to Web Applications, Part II', where they talk about our effective use of AJAX for search and filtering. Not bad, even if we say so ourselves!

No faint praise from e-commerce expert

Ian Jindal, e-commerce guru and flower-giving son, was sufficiently impressed by Serenata’s Ajax presentation at ‘What's New in Online Marketing’ to try out our online flower-delivery service.

Not so impressed, however, that he wanted to send his mother two bouquets. But when Ian inadvertently ordered a double dose of flowers, he unexpectedly ended up being doubly impressed – because our customer service team rang him up to ensure he’d actually intended to purchase more than one arrangement.

We’re glad we could help, Ian. It’s a fully automated system that runs our website, but, fortunately, it’s not the system that runs our business. Every online order we receive is accepted by a sensible human being who’s on the lookout for oddities such as multiple bouquets going to a single location (do they need different messages?), dodgy postcodes and incomplete addresses. As Shauna says, “If it looks funny, we’ll phone up to check if we need to fix it.”

Being spoilt for choice needn’t spoil your mood

You know it’s roses you’re after, but you can’t decide between white, pink or red. Come to think about it, lilies could actually be just the thing. Anyway, you know how much it is you’d like to spend – although you could be tempted to pay a little more (or a little less) if you find the perfect bunch. The trouble is, pogoing between colour, price and variety pages is causing your frustrate-o-metre to go from white to pink to red.

Fear no more, flower sender, fear no more. Serenata has found the answer to your woes. At the top of each category page we’ve included a fancy product wizard that lets you filter the collection according to your whim. Just click on the appropriate boxes or select from the dropdown menu and the page will instantly update with the flowers that match your criteria.

Magic? Nah, it’s just Ajax. But the web-savvy among you will know that it’s just as cool.
